Soil Compaction Project

 

Our Goal

Soil compaction is one of the most common causes of street tree mortality in NYC. For this project, we are planting radishes, which naturally create biodrills which reduce soil compaction and allow water and nutrients to more easily infiltrate. By reducing the soil compaction in street tree pits, we hope to improve street tree health and longevity, while also suppressing weeds.
